The Eastwood House of Recovery

The Eastwood house has been a series of creative solutions since its inception. Originally known as the Eastwood Tavern, this small building on Kalamazoo’s East side was the nastiest dive bar in three counties, it was also located right across the street from our lab. When we heard it was about to be taken over by a notorious local motorcycle gang with a reputation for hard drinking and violent drug abuse the Group stepped in and turned the situation around. The Group acquired the property and made it available to a local Alcoholics Anonymous organization for a significantly reduced rent in order to help them get started. The AA Group hit the ground running and through some strategic alliances with local sponsors and months of hard work have turned what was a public eyesore and a notorious drug den into a shining example of community partnering and friends helping friends.
